DNR Seeking Public Comment On Green Tier Application For KS Large Bore Pistons

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requests public comments on the Green Tier application for KS Large Bore Pistons, LLC. (KSLP). If accepted, the application would allow KSLP to join Tier 1. The proposal covers activities at a single facility on Angwall Drive in Marinette.

The DNR’s Green Tier program is designed to encourage, recognize and reward companies that are committed to superior environmental performance. Applicants must have a clear environmental record and agree to implement an environmental management system, which will be used to set goals, assess their progress and identify new opportunities. Participants must have the system audited regularly and strive for continual environmental improvement.

KSLP is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of large-bore pistons. The company primarily uses aluminum, ductile iron and steel to manufacture pistons for heavy-duty applications. It also produces pistons specialized for alternative fuels, including hydrogen, ammonia and methanol. The facility in Martinette achieved ISO 14001 certification in 2015 and continues to maintain it.

The company motto, “our power keeps the world moving,” reflects KSLP’s mission to make the world more sustainable with its products. Further, KSLP has implemented a reporting program called Position Green, which will align with Green Tier to help the facility integrate sustainable practices into its operations. With both tools in place, KSLP intends to reduce harmful emissions, reduce off-site hazardous waste and minimize the impacts of its waste stream.

The DNR will accept written comments on the application until Nov. 11, 2026. Comments should be directed to:
